Forests create a natural environment that deserves special attention and preservation operations. However, the Green Dam in the southern region of Hodna - Algeria has experienced a very advanced degradation. In the study area, two major types of alteration were observed: a significant shrinkage of the forest cover at the El Hamel site, with an estimated failure rate of 30%, and an almost complete degradation at El Allig (Oultem), estimated at 99%. This regressive dynamic is reinforced by the increasing severity of climatic conditions, in particular the long periods of drought recorded between 1988 and 2019. A shift in the bioclimatic regime from the upper arid to the lower arid stage was highlighted, marked by a decrease in the Emberger climate index (Q), from 28.2 to 21.2. In addition to these constraints, anthropogenic pressures, in particular silvopastoral activities and the conversion of wooded land to agriculture, are exacerbating the degradation of forest environments.
