Biography

My name is Mesfin Mitiku Feleke (PhD candidate), 51, working in the area of Water Resources Engineering, Climate Change, Remote Sensing and GIS more over I have ample experience in using relevant software including MATLAB, Python, water management models (CropWat, Aquacrop, WEAP), R programming, SPSS, MS Office etc. I started working in natural resources and irrigation engineering in 1995, having successful achievements in this area across the country. I have worked as an expert, environmentalist, development coordinator, researcher, CEO and lecturer in the area of water & climate change in my residency. I studied Agricultural engineering at Haramaya University from 1989 to 1994 for my undergraduate studies, Water Resources Management in Leuphana Lueneburg University Suderburg campus for MSc, in Germany from 2004 to 2006 and now I am working my PhD in Water Resources Engineering (Irrigation Engineering and Management) at Addis Ababa University focusing on the critical issue of my country’s irrigation challenges by leveraging the vast practical knowledge that I acquired in the course of my 28 years of expertise. Irrigation water management, remote sensing GIS and digital platform are the major tools that I am using in my dissertation project to recommend sustainable, climate resilience irrigation water management systems in the country. I attended trainings both nationally and internationally (at Wageningen University in the Netherlands, Volcany center in Israel, Oldenburg university in Germany, Speak & Write in Germany, and several online courses in addition) in most relevant concepts including irrigation engineering, photogrammetry, remote sensing, GIS, and several software that helped me have successful achievement in my professional course. I am fluent in English, German besides my mother tongue Amharic, I can also communicate in the other major languages of my country Tigrigna and Oromiffa.
