Biography

Paromita Ghosh is Scientist - F and Head, Centre for Socio-Economic Development at G. B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment, Almora, Uttarakhand, India. She has a throughout first class career from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. She did her Ph.D. form Department of Botany through GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) fellowship.

She specializes in Forest Ecology, Grasslands and Air Pollution. Her acquired fields of expertise are soil nutrient dynamics, carbon sequestration, rehabilitation of degraded lands, community based natural resource management, value addition of non timbre forest products (NTFP), livelihood and rural development. Presently she is working on community based eco-smart model village development based on carrying capacity of natural resources.

She has been working in the Indian Himalayan region for the past twenty five years. She has published around seventy scientific papers and executed more than a dozen externally funded project. She has ten awards and fellowships to her credits till date. She has presented her research findings in seventeen international conference and twenty seven national and state conferences. She was invited to Japan, Canada and Thailand for presenting her research work. She holds life membership of eight academic bodies and is also member of IUCN (CEM and CEESP), IPBES and Future Earth.
